Northridge Blueberries

Northridge Blueberries sits five miles from the Pennsylvania border and a stone's throw from Lake Erie, at the far eastern edge of this region, and it has been managed organically for a year now.

• Blueberries - early to mid July onwards, at $4 a pound

Good to Know

The picking day is split in two: Thursday to Monday, 8am to noon and 5.30pm to 8pm, closed Tuesday and Wednesday. That evening window is unusual and it is the cool half of the day.

On the organic transition, in the farm's own words: "The berries have been managed organically, including weed control, for a year now. You may see some more weeds this summer, but we are working hard to weed and mulch in preparation for the season." Pre-picked certified organic vegetables are sold as they come in.

Look for "a white fruit stand out front, and the berry patch is enclosed in a deer fence."

Pro tip: take the 5.30pm slot. Picking blueberries on the Lake Erie shore in the last two hours of a July day, with the heat off the bushes, is a considerably better experience than doing it at eleven in the morning.
