About This Farm
Hillcrest Orchards at Amherst runs a ticketed fall festival, and you need a ticket to reach the trees: "Apple picking requires a valid farm admission ticket."

Varieties by date: early September brings Gala, Pixie Crunch, Honeycrisp and McIntosh; mid-September adds Amarilla Soul and Summerset; October moves to EverCrisp, Ludacrisp, Melrose, Granny Smith and Winesap; and from late October only EverCrisp and Ludacrisp remain.

Admission, which the picking sits inside:
- $12.95 online, $14.95 at the gate, with a pre-season rate of $9.71 through 31 August
- Family Fun Pack $74.96, four admissions plus a four-punch card
The apples are charged on top: a 10lb bag is $15.95 and a 20lb bag $29.95, and "Pick 4 bags, get the 5th FREE!"

Also on site: a corn maze, hayride, pedal karts and a corn box.
Pro tip: buy the admission online before 31 August and it is $9.71 instead of $14.95 at the gate, which for a family of four is a saving of twenty dollars before you have picked an apple. Ludacrisp in late October is the variety to go back for, and by then it is one of only two left on the trees.
