Bauman Orchards

Bauman Orchards started in 1929 and now farms 260 acres with 70,000 apple trees and 12,000 peach trees, which makes it the largest orchard in this region by a wide margin.

What You Can Pick

• Apples - autumn. The farm's own event billing is simply "U-Pick Apples!"
• Strawberries - June, at the Strawberry Festival

What Else is Available

A retail farm market at Rittman open all year with seasonal fruit, homemade pies, cookies and gift baskets, plus two more seasonal sites: Scenic Ridge Fruit Farm at Jeromesville and the Corner Market, also at Rittman. Fall Festival Saturdays bring live music, pony rides and the farm animals.

Good to Know

Now in its fourth generation, the farm also raises pears, plums, sweet corn and blueberries alongside the apples and peaches.

Late summer, in its own words: "Stop in for fresh-picked apples, sweet corn, peaches, and other locally grown favorites. With new varieties and produce coming in throughout the season, there's always something fresh waiting at the market."

Pro tip: 70,000 apple trees is not a number you can walk, and only part of the orchard is opened for picking. Check the events page rather than turning up, because Bauman runs its u-pick as dated weekends rather than an open gate.
