Witte's Vegetable Farm

Witte's at Cedarburg is a pick-your-own vegetable farm with one fruit crop, and it is an unusual one: the raspberries are the autumn type, so they come in when everybody else's are finished.

What You Can Pick

• Raspberries - August, the fall-bearing type

Beans come in July; hot, green and yellow peppers, regular and Roma tomatoes in August; red peppers in September.

Good to Know

Read the farm's rules before you go, because they are firm and clearly the result of experience:

• Bring your own containers. "We no longer provide bushels to pick in."
• A minimum amount is set for every crop picked.
• Fields close two hours before the stand, and on wet or rainy days they do not open at all.
• Cash and cheques, cards over $20 only, and a $25 charge for a returned cheque.

The pumpkins here are already gathered from the field rather than picked, which the farm states plainly. Two and a half miles west of downtown Cedarburg on Bridge Road.

Pro tip: dress for mud. The farm says so itself, and a Wisconsin raspberry row in August after rain is exactly as advertised.
