Stetson Creek Ranch

Stetson Creek Ranch is the most remote farm in this region and possibly on this site. It is an apple orchard in the mountains, completely surrounded by National Forest, and getting there is part of the deal.

Getting There

In the ranch's own words: "Our ranch is down a long dirt Forest Service road that is rocky and must be taken slowly and carefully. The Forest Service recommends high clearance vehicles for these roads. It is one lane but there are places wide enough for one car to pull off and allow oncoming traffic to pass."

Good to Know

The ranch's rules are unlike anything else on this site, and worth reading in full before you go:

• No smoking. "We are completely surrounded by National Forest, and a careless ash could cause a catastrophe!"
• Keep your children with you at all times. "The forest is home to many animals that don't respect property boundaries. Some of them are predators." There is also a pond.
• Dogs stay in the car. There is livestock.
• Sensible shoes. "Our orchard is in the mountains... We have uneven terrain, wild roses with thorns, ground squirrel holes, rocks, snakes and other hazards."
• No climbing trees or throwing apples.

Credit cards are now accepted, which the ranch flags as news.

Pro tip: this is the only farm on this site that warns you about predators, snakes and the fire risk from a dropped cigarette. Take the warnings seriously, take a proper car, and go anyway. Nothing else near Los Angeles is remotely like it.
