Silkey Gardens at Northfield is a small grower that runs on one thing: a phone call to Paul.
At the time of checking, in the farm's own words: "Currently offering Zestar, Red Wealthy and Leasha Apples. Also we have Vegetables available including potatoes and onions to dig; bell peppers, tomatoes (red and yellow lemon) and cucumbers to pick."
Across the year the farm also picks strawberries, raspberries and blueberries.
"Monday through Saturday call Paul before you come. Closed Sundays." The instruction appears three times on the farm's own front page.
And with unusual thoughtfulness: "if you are coming from a distance or later in the morning, please call for a field update on picking conditions."
Email Paul@SilkeyGardens.com, phone 651-357-5092. The field is at 5561 115th St SE, Northfield.
Pro tip: Red Wealthy and Leasha are old and unusual apples that almost no commercial orchard bothers with. Wealthy was bred in Excelsior, Minnesota in the 1860s and is one of the parents of the modern cold-hardy varieties. Worth asking Paul about while you pick.
Our own assessment, scored the same way for every farm on the site, from what each farm publishes about itself. Not a visit, and not a public review score.
Approximate hours. The farm publishes none and asks you to call Paul before coming; it is closed Sundays.
