Rush River Produce at Maiden Rock has nine acres of blueberries in fourteen varieties, which is why its season runs so much longer than anyone else's, and its motto tells you how it works: "We provide the boxes, you take home the harvest."
Blueberries, July and August, across 14 different varieties giving an extended picking season. Also black and red currants.
Open Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 8am to 2pm. Fields close at 2:00pm and the farm says so twice.
"Always call 715 594-3648."
Cash and personal cheques only, no credit cards.
The farm is run by Terry and John Cuddy with their sons Joe and Lucas, and it invites you to "bring your family to meet ours". Because it sells direct, it can answer questions about blueberry growing, which is a genuinely unusual offer.
Pro tip: fourteen varieties over nine acres means the flavour changes week to week through July and August. Ask which variety is picking that day and taste before you fill the box.
