Slow Farm

Slow Farm on Whitmore Lake Road is certified organic and grows around a hundred varieties across fifteen acres, which is why its picking list changes week to week rather than crop to crop.

What You Can Pick

• Strawberries - June and July, at $7.50 a pound
• Raspberries - summer and autumn, red and autumn red
• Pumpkins - autumn
• Asparagus, tomatoes, peppers, winter squash, herbs and vegetables

What It Costs

The farm's own pricing, and it is refreshingly plain: crops are sold by the pound and by the bunch, most between $2 and $7 a pound, with strawberries at $7.50.

Good to Know

Picking is usually Thursday to Sunday, 9am to noon, and the farm says to check Google Maps for the most up to date information. There is a farmstand on site.

Because the list turns over so fast, the farm points people at its newsletter and social accounts rather than publishing a calendar.

Pro tip: a three-hour morning window four days a week is a small door for a hundred crops. Get there at nine rather than at eleven, and treat the visit as a shop rather than an outing: this is a market garden that lets you harvest, not a fairground.
