Bird Berry Farm

Bird Berry Farm on Belding Road picks strawberries in June and blueberries in July, and runs each on a completely different weekly pattern. It is a farm that tells you exactly what things cost, which is rarer than it should be.

What You Can Pick

• Strawberries - June, $2.25 a pound. Bring your own container, or buy one there
• Blueberries - July, $2.50 a pound. The farm provides a plastic-lined pail

Already picked, if you would rather not: strawberries at $6 a quart or $44 for an eight-quart flat, blueberries at $4 a pint, $7 a quart or $35 for a ten-pound box. Ring during business hours and speak to an attendant to order.

Good to Know

The two seasons keep different hours:

• Strawberries - Monday to Saturday 7:30am to 5pm, Sunday 10am to 2pm
• Blueberries - Wednesday to Saturday 7:30am to 5pm, closed Sunday to Tuesday

Cash or cheque only, and the farm gives an unusually good reason: it sits in a mobile dead zone and cannot take card payments at all.

Bring a water bottle. No pets. All ages are welcome and encouraged.

Pro tip: follow the blueberry flags to the patch, and ring first. The farm warns its own phones are sketchy, so Facebook is the faster check on whether weather has shut picking down.
